Relationships Before, During and After Disordered Eating Recovery

Episode 64: In this episode of the MBM podcast, I discuss the difference in relationships before, during and after disordered eating recovery. As you all know, I completely understand what it's like to try to relate to other people, such as friends, family members and lovers, during an eating disorder. It feels almost impossible to go out and have a good time when you can't stop the overwhelming fear about your food choices, body image, and sense of control from bubbling over your limits for how much anxiety you can handle in a day.Sometimes, it was just so much easier to turn down a date or happy hour with my friends because the stress of "how many calories are in that?" was just too much to handle.Until, I made the commitment to try. It was simple. Just go out and be intimate with the moment, and see what happens. You'll find out exactly that in this episode!Show notes:

  • Dream relationship exercise

  • How living in defense mode was inevitable during my disordered eating days, and also exhausting

  • How you know when you're entering the "during" phase

  • Why dating in the "during"phase is like free coaching

  • The best thing you can do after a date to keep the intimacy going

  • Letting go of your desire to control the status of the relationship, as you let go of control over food

  • The momentum aspect of the "after" portion of self-discovery
